Wonderful Wonderland

It's a cracking 41 degrees forecast today so a perfect day for staying indoors with the airconditioning cranked up and the sewing machine going. I trotted off to my local quilting store on Wednesday and found myself 2 Jelly Rolls of Momo Wonderland by Moda. It's been on my "would like" list for a while and to find them half price was fantastic luck!! Underneath the Wonderland roll is another of my "would like" fabrics of late, Rainy Days & Mondays by Riley Blake. It's super cute, with a modern yet retro twist. I love it!

So what to do with two rolls of fabric? I've been thinking about a Bento Box style quilt for a while now and thought that the Wonderland fabric would look lovely in one just like the gorgeous one below. The quilt featured below features another of my favourite lines of fabric, Flea Market Fancy. Drool......

In my journey through Flickr I also found this cushion that would be gorgeous in my room or my studio. So that idea is on the back burner if I have any fabric left over.

And lucky last is some fabric newly arrived from the US for one of my customers who was after fabric with records on it to show her kids that there really was a form of recorded music prior to CD's!! Love the retro, fifties styling of this Robert Kaufman print. I'm making up a couple of sunhats in this fabric so I will share when they are done.

Hectic Hodge Podge

Life in the Silly Gilly camp has been hectic this week. Lots of running around and out and about.

Here's views of Friday night's stall at the Fringe market. Kate of Red Ted and I shared a stall and it was such a wonderfully balmy night. Except for the flying ants!!

I whipped out a few new girls hats in time for the market and will post a pic of those later today. My desk is currently under siege from all the delicious donated items that have sold on ebay. I can't believe how much everything has sold for!! I'll announce the grand total after the last two delicious items have sold. Go bid on them now!!

My husband took me on a date last night which I enjoyed immensley as dates don't get to happen very often around here due to crazy work commitments. We bopped along to Ben Lee and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. One thing that for the life of me I don't understand is going to see live music and having to SIT DOWN. How on earth are you supposed to jig and jive and groove along whilst sitting on your tush!!?? I am completely perplexed and if anyone has a rational explanation I would greatly love to hear it.

(Oh and the $275 I won afterward at the Casino..... that was just an added bonus!!)

New boy's hats in store!

I've been busying myself making as much stock as possible in the lead up to being at the free Fringe Family Frivolity market at Hahndorf next Friday 13th March. Red Ted and I will be holding another market stall there. Trying to provide a good range of boys and girls items. Here are a few boys hats I've whipped up. All available in the store now.

The auctions are going off!!!! as a young person like myself might have said ten years ago. Lots of bids flying left, right and forwards. I'm so pleased and I really do hope to see last minute flurries of bids!

Off to market

Tomorrow I'm off to market again to share a stall with my Red Ted pal Kate. This time we are off to Fullarton Plant and Craft Market, on the corner of Fullarton Rd & Fisher St, Fullarton, SA. Kate and I shared a stall last year at the fabulous Prospect Food and Wine Affair. It was so nice to meet customers in person and I'm looking forward to meeting some new customers tomorrow.

And continuing the red theme, I've been busy sewing again and have come up with a few new items for the Silly Gilly store. One of them is a sunhat called Rosy Retro. It's a lovely deep-brimmed hat which is quite adjustable using the ties at the back. Made from fab retro styled cotton. Perfect for any 2 - 4 year old.

If only it came in my size....

I've just finished off another little girls hat and handbag set. I like this pair so much that I would love a set for myself, in my size of course... It's just something about navy, red and white that is so crisp and clean and perky!


I've been experimenting and having lots of fun adding different embellishments to the little girls hats. I was inspired by Nikki with her gorgeous hat embellishments. I'm finding my way and hope to find some good embellishments for boys hats soon.

Both of the hat and bag are lined with navy fabric featuring little white polka dots! Remember, if you see something on the Silly Gilly site and would like a matching accessory, just contact me and I will see if I can help! ETA Sorry to say this hat and bag have now sold!

Little Girls Hats and Handbags are here!

I've put together a couple of sets of little girls summer hats and handbag sets just in time for Christmas.

They are available for purchase each as a hat and bag set or individually. The green apple hat, Fruity Fresh, is size Large and the blue gingham, Susie Sweetpea, is size Medium. Both the bags and hats are fully lined and machine washable! That's important to know because I know how tough my almost 3yr old daughter is on her hats and bags!!

I'm also just finishing off tonight a gorgeous blue and red polka dot hat and bag set in size XLarge. I know there's lots of girl's things going into the Silly Gilly store at the moment but more boys things are on the way soon!

My architecturally designed hat display

I had been wanting a new way to display my hats for when I attend the Future Family Fun Days each month. I mentioned this to my husband and being the architect that he is, he dwelt upon it for a few days, getting ideas straight in his head.

And this is the magnificent creation is the result!! A round wooden base supporting seven hats at different levels, so that each is not disrupting the view of another. And it was extremely thrifty too. We found the dowel used for the uprights at a garage sale for $1 and the round wooden base is the top of a table we no longer needed. Some screws from the toolbox and voila!! A little bit of paint tomorrow and I'm impressed. Hi Mr Silly Gilly if you're reading (which I know he will as he requested I blog about his workmanship)!!

Never mind the hastily placed fleece hat on top or the creatively messy desk behind. I was just in a hurry to take a photo whilst there was a smidge of light left in the room. :)


See that little hand on the left? That's my new little boy Steiner Doll almost finished and ready to go to the Future Families Fun Day this Friday, at Goodwood Community Centre. He's a custom order and looking as cute as a button. It's hard to part with these little people once I've created them! I'll post a pic of him perhaps tomorrow once he's finished.

Happy Hats!

I've been bowled over lately with lots of lovely custom orders so I thought I might share one with you today.

I met a lovely woman at the Future Families Fun Day last month and she has ordered these two hats for her children. I think they are so bright and cheerful so I'm naming them Happy Hats. They make a nice change for boys who often have cars or trucks or dinosaurs as their only choices.
