New smock style

After three years of making smocks, I thought I would change it up a bit and trial a new style of art smock for the kidlets. What do you think? Do you think a pocket, as I include on my current style of smock, is a necessity on an art smock for children? Do your children use their pockets on their smocks if they have one?

This new style has elastic on the sides so it is much easier for children to put on and take off by themselves. Very important to foster independence in the kidlets, don't you think!?

Boys Toys smock!

Generous sized smock covered with easy-to-wipe plastic on the front. Made for a customer for her two year old son. I think I will make more long sleeve smocks for the store.

What's your opinion? Do you prefer sleeveless art smocks or art smocks with long elasticized sleeves like this one? I'm interested to know.....

Bits and Bobs

Oops, almost a week went by there.. Unintentional break but back nonetheless.
Here's a shot of smocks waiting to be made up, hopefully this afternoon with the house to myself whilst Squidlet is off to kindy.

I also whipped up one of Jodie's fabric sewing buckets to hold my bits and bobs of the sewing variety - un-picker, applique shape templates, random sewing paraphernalia. I think I just may whip up another one to replace the daggy little cardboard box which sits on my desk that I currently use for rubbish. These buckets are so quick and easy to use. I used super hard-core iron-on interfacing in mine and I really like the outcome. They stand up nice and straight.

And more art smocks in size 3, 4 and 5 are being popped in the Silly Gilly store this afternoon!

New Art Smocks In Store

I've been busy sewing more smocks for the upcoming Prospect Road Fashion Food & Wine Affair. My friend Kate, who owns Red Ted kids wear, and I will be sharing a stall there on Sunday 16th November so for any of you in the Adelaide area, come on down and say hi!

Both of these smocks are definitely a trend setting statement for any young artiste out there with burgeoning creative skills. The smocks have a layer of plastic on their fronts that enable easy clean ups. There is a large pocket on the front and the back closes with two sets of ties. Available now at Silly Gilly.

Busy bee getting ready for the Hunt!!

I've been busy this week getting organised for the upcoming Great Down Under Nappy Hunt, which starts tomorrow, 1st September. I'm one of the sponsors of the hunt and have provided the library bag shown below as a prize which is in the Grand Prize #1 draw.

A wonderful parcel arrived this week too, but I'm yet to take a photo, so that shall be tomorrows post. And my other goal for tomorrow is to show you a sneak peek of my completed Doll Quilt Swap that will be wending its way to a suburb near you (well actually only to someone who hasn't received one yet.... ). Love this secret squirrel business!

Oh no, not more Little Golden Books...

Yep.

Found more today at a garage sale. 35 more to be exact. Today I actually decided, out loud, consciously, to aim for collecting the whole damn lot. Not that that was my intention previously, but now it is. Am I loony? Methinks.....

I have also been a busy bee this evening piecing together my Doll Quilt Swap 4 quilt. I found the pattern here. 12" square, it still needs lots of embellishing but apart from that, it's coming together nicely. I'm thinking of some red or pink stitching. Maybe buttons? Sorry for the low quality photo, that's late evening photography for you.


But there is one piece in the quilt that is bugging me completely now I've uploaded this photo... Can you guess which one? It's funny when you view something through a different medium, it gives you a fresh outlook. Looks like some unpicking is due tomorrow.

And I've finished a smock that's been waiting in the WIP pile for some time. It features a great retro print with little boys and girls playing pirates and finding treasure!

Concentration

Sometimes I peek round the corner to be privvy to what my daughter is doing by herself. This time she was talking quietly to herself whilst painting with water colours. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures quietly....
