We Have A Winner!

I recently announced the opening of my new online fabric store Sew Vintage. To celebrate I offered free fabric to anyone who commented on which was their favourite print from the store.

We held an official draw here at Silly Gilly with our gorgeous game show girl in her new chefs hat (more on that later).

As for the dashing chef hat my game show girl is sporting above, this week I received an order to make 6 chef hats and aprons for a local business. It was super fun making these and poppet got one too when I did the test run of the new pattern. Here's the hats waiting to be delivered today.

Ah, the serenity...

I have packaged up and posted my Gingerbread House off to it's next destination, to be seen early next year in another life form. The relief of meeting that deadline and sending it on it's way is fantastic. More time now to whip up some Silly Gilly stock for the shop.

Sewing, sewing, sewing...

I have had the decadent luxury of 24 hours of kiddie-free sewing time. My wonderful MIL has had my daughter for that time and I have managed to get so much done! Who would have thought!!??

I tried my hand at sewing oil cloth and made an apron. Here is the prototype and I'm okay with this one but I have some great ideas for the next version. Oilcloth is a great fabric for aprons as it's a laminated fabric which easily wipes clean.

I am really liking the pinked edge of the pocket but next time will fold over the top edge of the pocket so that little hands don't get poked when they are looking for their spoon!

I've also whipped up a few library bags and will put them in the Silly Gilly shop this evening.

Good evening Husband, can I fix you a drink?

I've been working on finishing my new apron. I found the vintage pattern for it at a garage sale and had had the fabric in the stash for quite a few months. The fabric was perfect for the pattern and I have now finished the bottom half of the apron.

It's a very full apron and I've used good ol' yellow gingham, which I feel balances the grey quite nicely. Next to add is the almost completed bib which is detachable and buttons on. Pics to come soon.

Ahh, the deliciousness of a big whopping parcel arriving all the way from the US. I'm a self confessed fabriholic and am a very proud owner of some new arrivals....

Some beautiful Michael Miller and Robert Kaufman fabric, those two are amongst my favourite fabric designers. And the piece de resistance, a few boxes of divine Moda Learn to Sew Lace-Up Cards for the kiddies. I'll post more about these sweet vintage inspired treasures tomorrow. They will be up for grabs in my store soon....

And another thing I'm really getting into lately is making half aprons for girls in vintage fabrics using vintage patterns. I've found some lovely 50's fabric at the op shops lately and have already popped two up on my site. More to come next week.

I've a thang for the whole kit and kaboodle it took to be a fifties and sixties housewife. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot. So of course, if one is to be a great housewife now, or housewife in training, one needs a great apron! My daughter has one I made for her and I felt very inspired to make more.
